Many players missing in the squads: Abdul Qadir

ISLAMABAD: Former Leggie star Abdul Qadir sees names of many players missing in the squads announced for the next month's series against Australia to be staged in the United Arab Emirates.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) axed senior batsman Younis Khan for next month's one-day series, however Abdul Qadir feels Younis should have been included in the squad. "Younis must be respected as he is a senior player," he said.

Qadir said why we don't have an off spinner instead of Saeed Ajmal. "Yasir Shah should have been tried," he said while talking to a private news channel.

Leg spinner, Yasir Shah is top of the list to replace Ajmal who has been Pakistan's top wicket-taker for the last two to three years.

Qadir said we have selected all left arm bowlers. "Don't we have any right arm fast bowlers in the country? Left arm pacers are used as a variety and not to fill up the entire team," he said.

Qadir said Sohail Tanvir didn't deserve a chance in the team. "What has Sohail Tanvir done to come back into the team? He has never performed in domestic or international cricket," he said.

Qadir said "Sarfraz Ahmed should be kept in Twenty-20's as well and Umar Akmal should have only played as a batsman," he said.

Qadir said Umar Amin has played so many matches and failed repeatedly yet he keeps on getting selected. "We cannot continue selecting players based on fitness only," he said.

Qadir said we should take advantage of Zulfiqar Babar who can perform and deliver on any surface.

Former great batsman Zaheer Abbas said the team management shouldn't keep that player in the team who continues to throws away his wicket after scoring 20 to 30 runs even if there is no back up. "Look at the way Sangakarra and Jaywerdene bat, when we used to play cricket, whenever we used to get settled on the crease, it would require the police force to take us away from the wicket," he said.

Zaheer said unless you have competition for batting spots in the team, there is no incentive for anyone in the team to improve. "Every batsman needs to work hard, you can bring all the coaches in the world but ultimately at the end of the day everyone is responsible for his own performance," he said.
