imageKARACHI: Pakistan's highly rated batsman Umar Akmal is looking to improve his shot selection after being recalled in the Test team after three years.

"I had problems in shot selection in Test matches. But I am now fully focused to put up an improved performance in the Test series against Sri Lanka," he told a private television channel on Saturday night.

"I had already launched my plans with new management including new batting coach Grant Flower," he said. "I will carry forward my natural flair in Test matches by checking my shot selection," added 24-year-old right handed batsman.

While admitted that he lost his wicket due to poor shot selection in Test matches and was keen to remove and eliminate deficiencies in shot selection.

Umar Akmal was recalled in Pakistan Test team after three year after played his last match against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo's Queens Sports Club Ground in 2011.

"Serving the country and bringing honour and glory to Pakistan is main objective," he said.

He said playing in all three versions of cricket was his main objective and he was working really hard to achieve his goals.

Umar Akmal was not happy to bat down to number six spot in Test matches and wants to bat up in the order when some senior players retire from the game in coming year.

Highly talented but under achiever Umar Akmal made a sensational debut against New Zealand by scoring a century at University Oval Dunedin in 2009. But Pakistan lost the match by 32 runs.

He said he was fully aware of his responsibility as batsman and he was putting an extra effort to maintain consistency.

Commenting on next year's ICC World Cup co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, he said three upcoming series against Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand will be great exposure and build-up for the team.

He expressed the confidence that Pakistan teams will be well prepared and equipped at the time of the World Cup where he himself will be making his first appearance in the premier one-day event of the ICC.
