imageRAWALPINDI: Punjab Chief Secretary, Naveed Akram Cheema Friday reviewed arrangements made to prevent dengue larva breeding in the upcoming summer season and achieve 100 per cent target in the polio vaccination drive.

Chairing a meeting here, he directed the departments concerned to ensure full implementation on the strategy devised to defeat dengue and polio disease. Commissioner Rawalpindi Zahid Saeed, Punjab Secretary Health, Dr. Ejaz Munir, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Sajid Zafar, Executive District Officer (EDO, Health) Dr Zafar Iqbal Gondal and other senior officials attended the meeting.

Effective anti-dengue measures taken in April and May, he said, would give good results in the months of August, September and October, which were considered the season of dengue larva breeding.

The Chief Secretary stressed the need to focus on the union councils, which were declared dengue-affected localities last year, and create awareness among masses to adopt preventive measures against the lethal disease. He said there should be proper monitoring of the health teams working in different localities and those showing negligence in performing duties must be punished.

Cheema directed the health department to make arrangements at all exit and entry points of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa for administering polio drops to children, adding "sure round-the-clock working of the anti-polio points."

Punjab Health Secretary Dr Ejaz Munir apprised the meeting that health teams were actively operating across the province to make the ongoing anti-dengue and anti-polio drives successful.

He said special containers have been placed at all railways stations, bus stands and all transit points for polio vaccination.
