imageQUETTA: According to unofficial results, the major winners of the first phase of Balochistan By-Local Government elections remained Pakistan Muslim League-N, Pashtoonkhawa Milli Awami Party and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl.

When contacted, official sources in the Provincial Election Commission Balochistan told APP, here on Monday that they would announce the final and official results of the by-Local bodies elections on January 21 or within next two or three days. They, however, confirmed that the PML-N, PkMAP and JUI-F were among the major winners of the by-elections.

"PkMAP won several seats in Harnai district and JUI-F in other districts of Pashtoon belt while PML-N clinched seats in east Balochistan districts of Jaffarabad and Sibi," they said.

The Provincial Election Commissioner Balochistan, Syed Sultan Bayazeed said that they would issue the schedule for oath taking of newly elected councilors after the official results of the by-polls.

"The by-LG polls were conducted without reporting of any untoward incident and voters thronged the polling stations to cast their votes," he said.

The by-LB polls were held for 98 seats in 12 districts of Balochistan including of district councils, municipal committees and union councils. The by-LG elections for reaming 331 vacant seats would be held in second phase as these could not be conducted for them on January 19 due to law and order situation and other reasons.

"The most population of Awaran district was displaced from their native areas after deadly earthquake devastated the district, causing life and property loss," they said, adding therefore, the by-LG elections could not be held in the district in first phase on January 19," the officials said.
