imageThe popular Sunday Bazaar in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) has been closed by authorities. DHA Sunday Bazaar silently demolished over thousands stalls. DHA Sunday Bazaar was setup in Zone E of DHA Karachi Phase VIII.

‘DHA Sunday Bazaar’ is a very well organized bazaar with stalls and the spacious walkways between the stalls were properly built up with tiled floors. Fiber top have also been installed on the stalls to save from sunlight. DHA Sunday Bachat Bazaar has not only attracted residents of Defence and Clifton, but also many people from different part of the city.

According to local media reports, Defence Housing Authority silently demolished over 2,000 stalls that dotted the popular market leaving behind a rubble of belongings and destroying the livelihood of thousands. However, DHA spokesperson Major Aurangzeb denied all the claims. “The agreement with the Sunday Bazar administration expired on December 31, 2014,” he said.

“Furthermore, it was a private property where the market was installed temporarily. The DHA was being pressurized by the plot owners, who wanted to construct houses there”, local media reported.

‘Sunday Bazaars’ are very common for Karachities, this type of bazaars are organized in many other areas of the Metropolitan City to cater those working class people who normally don’t have time for their house hold shopping during working days. Normally this type of Sunday Bazaars are setup on open large grounds or parks.
