SBP formally issues commemorative coin on Guru Nanak’s 550th birth anniversary today

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) formally issued on Tuesday the commemorative coin on the occasion of 550th birth anniversary of Sikh religion founder Baba Guru Nanak.

A ceremony to this effect was held in Karachi on Tuesday, where Governor SBP Reza Baqir said the purpose of releasing the commemorative coin by the central bank is to supplement and be part of national efforts to promote interfaith harmony.

He added that the founder of Sikh religion preached the message of peace and brotherhood. He expressed the confidence that through this coin his message will reach every household. The Sikh community worldwide celebrates today on November 12 the birth of their religion founder Guru Nanak.

Sikhs visiting the Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Pakistan will be able to buy the Rs.550 coin to mark the 550th birth

anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak. They will also be able to buy postage stamps with an image of the Gurdwara Janam Asthan for Rs8.

Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated the landmark Kartarpur Corridor on Saturday to facilitate the Sikh pilgrims from India into Gurdwara Dera Sahib at Kartarpur in Narowal district of Pakistan.

Thousands of pilgrims were present on the occasion of the inauguration of the corridor including former Indian cricket star and ex- minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, Indian ex-prime minister Manmohan Singh, (Indian) Punjab Chief Minister Amrinder Singh and Indian actor turned politician Sunny Deol.
