Man arrested at Singapore airport for buying ticket only to wave his wife off at gate

Singapore’s Changi airport, considered among the world’s most attractive airports, is also very strict when it comes to laws, as recently a man was arrested at the airport for buying a ticket just to wave off his wife at the gate.

The Singapore Police Force recently arrested a 27-year-old man for buying a ticket only to walk his wife to the gate, leading to the forces issuing a warning to people to not to ‘misuse’ their boarding passes.

In Singapore, it is actually an offense to misuse a boarding pass, since transit areas are considered to be ‘protected places’. Up till now, 33 people have been arrested in the first eight months of 2019 under Singapore’s legislation, reported CNN.

The arrested man bought a ticket solely just to walk his wife to the gate and did not intend to depart Singapore. The authorities mentioned in a recent Facebook post that ‘passengers who enter the transit areas with a boarding pass should only be there for the purpose of traveling to their next destination’, wrote Independent.

Any person who accesses the gate-side areas at Changi airport without planning to fly can be prosecuted under the country’s Infrastructure Protection Act and can be fined up to S$20,000 or even be imprisoned for up to two years.

Meanwhile, Singapore has made headlines for its spectacular Changi airport that not only includes the world’s tallest artificial waterfall, but also an on-site butterfly garden, a cactus garden, a four-story slide, hedge mazes and a lot more.
