ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain Sunday said there was dire need to reform the country's overall education system instead of only seminaries.
Talking to a private news channel, the minister said a National Syllabus Committee had been set up under the supervision of Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood to review the educational syllabus and suggest necessary reforms.
He said the previous governments had failed to bring any reforms in the system governing the seminaries.
Fawad said there was plan to nationalize the seminaries and the government had already allocated budget for the purpose.
He said reports regarding negative activities of some seminaries were being received and action would be taken against them.
Replying to a question, he said many of people, who remained attached with banned outfits, now wanted to delink themselves from their activities. The government had devised a three-pronged strategy to control the banned organizations economically, politically and administratively. First of all they would have be de-weaponized, he added.
To another query, the minister said the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) had great importance for Pakistan. "We will have to meet its conditions otherwise we can face more economic hardships."
The minister said the government would take on-board the opposition regarding the issue of banned organizations.
