Pakistan former captain turned cricket commentator Ramiz Raja has stated that Pakistan should drop batsmen Asad Shafiq and Fakhar Zaman for the second Test match against South Africa at Cape Town.

South Africa won the first Test at Centurion, after they manage to chase down the target with six wickets to spare.

“Asad Shaifq is struggling so he should play in the second Test, likewise Fakhar Zaman role as an opening batsman is a bit dicey because his batting doesn’t suit the conditions offered in South Africa, so he should be sidelined as well,” said Raja, at Ramiz Speaks.

The former captain was of the view that Shan Masood who scored 19 and 65 runs in the first Test, should be given the opening slot. Whereas, Pakistan could bring in an all-rounder i.e. Shadab Khan, Fahim Ashraf and Haris Sohail in the squad, opined Raja.

Talking about Pakistan’s batting collapse in the second inning, Raja said that the batting line should have shown mental toughness and the ability to capitalize. Pakistan needs to bat at least 100-150 overs in order to improve in Test, he added.

Earlier, Pakistan cricket captain Sarfraz Ahmed expressed his disappointment over his side dismal batting display against South Africa in the first Test. “Very disappointed. Had an opportunity to score some runs but lost too many wickets in the final session. We have quality bowlers, but just didn’t have the runs,” said Sarfraz, at the post match presentation.

Meanwhile, the second Test is scheduled to begin at Cape Town on Thursday, January 3.
