KARACHI: A rehabilitation plan was finalised to provide alternate place to the affected traders of Empress Market and other locations at a high-level meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shalwani at his office, here on Thursday.
The meeting decided that the balloting to provide alternatives to the affectees will be held soon, said a statement.
Commissioner Iftikhar Shalwani, Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar, special assistant to Chief Minister Sindh Waqar Mehdi, DIG traffic Javed Ali Mehar, director general culture department Manzoor Ahmed, senior director Masood Alam, director land Bashir Siddiqui, SSP South and others will review the strategy of the rehabilitation plan.
Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Syed Saif-ur-Rehman briefed the meeting about the rehabilitation plan.
He said that alternate shops will be provided to the affectees in accordance with their former location and size of businesses.
The participants of the meeting discussed in detail the matters related to the alternate markets and locations.
It was also informed that all details of the affectees have been collected and balloting will be held soon.
Restoration of Empress Market as a historical heritage was also reviewed in detail and it was decided that the plan will be implemented with the coordination of the Sindh culture department.
