KARACHI: A guard mounting ceremony took place at the Mazar-e-Quaid in which a smartly turned out contingent of cadets from Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Academy Asghar Khan took over guard duties at the mausoleum of father of the nation.

Air Vice Marshal Nadeem Sabir, Air Officer Commanding PAF Academy Asghar Khan laid a wreath and offered Fateha at the Mazar-e-Quaid.

The ceremony was keenly witnessed by citizens including a large number of students from various schools and colleges who had gathered at the mausoleum of the Quaid, said a PAF statment on Thursday.

Earlier, Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force, in a message in connection with the Defence Day said Defense Day of the country symbolizes the exemplary courage, sacrifice and unity of the armed forces and the people of the country.

"The day holds a special significance in our history, as it revives the memory of our nation's resolve in the face of aggression, thus showing the world that Pakistan knows how to safeguard its territorial integrity," he said.

Undoubtedly, he said Pakistan Air Force, in unison with sister services, delivered a knock-out punch to its rival during the ensuing air battle. Many brave sons of the soil embraced Shahadat (martyrdom) or returned with a glow of pride as Ghazi. "We salute and pay homage to our heroes for their valorous deeds," Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan said.

A ceremony was also held at PAF Base Masroor to mark the day. Chief Guest Sindh Governor Imran Ismail inaugurated the proceedings of the day by cutting a ribbon. The special feature of the day was a static display at PAF Base, Masroor. Various PAF Aircraft in addition to ground support and other auxiliary equipment were put on display.

Flying display by PAF F-16, JF-17, Mirage and F7 PG Aircraft was also performed which drew the attention and admiration from the visitors present at venue.

The day started with special Dua and Quran Khawani for the martyrs. The day was observed with a renewed pledge and determination to make "Fazaia" even stronger and a potent force to face any challenge.

Air Vice Marshal Ahsan Rafiq, Air Officer Commanding, Southern Air Command was also present on the occasion.
