QUETTA: Caretaker Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Alauddin Marri Wednesday said media should play its effective role to highlight the issues and problems being faced by the people.

Honesty and hard work were important for resolving any issue and the interim government during the last two months addressed some of the fundamental rights of public in the province, he added.

The chief minister was addressing a ceremony regarding the journalists residential colony schemes here at the Quetta Press Club (QPC).

Provincial Information Minister Malik Khurram Shehzad and Information Secretary Tayib Lehri were also present on the occasion.

Chief Minister Marri said there was serious issue of drinking water in Gwadar, which had been resolved through concerted efforts to some extent. He advised the new government to take more steps for providing facilities to the residents of Gwadar.

He said more dams should be constructed in the country in order bring barren lands under cultivatation.

The chief minister said the caretaker government had fulfilled the demand of journalists for a housing colony by allocating 20 acres of land for the purpose.

Earlier, senior journalist Amad said about 40 journalists had been martyred in Balochistan and urged the government to ensure provision of compensation to their heirs.
