Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was acquitted on Friday by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in the attacks on senior superintendent of police (SSP) Asmatullah Ullah Junejo during the 2014 sit-ins.

Once the hearing commenced and the PTI chairman appeared before the court, the bench ruled in his favor. Following the verdict, Khan addressed the media and said that he was happy with the decision.

Targeting deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the PTI leader said that Sharif should have a checkup from a psychiatric as he was talking 'rubbish'. Sharif had earlier said that he was neither competing with PTI nor Pakistan Peoples Party but he was competing with an 'alien party'.

Sit-in case: ATC warns Imran Khan of arrest warrant over no-show

On April 25, the ATC had warned Khan that if he did not appear for the court proceedings, the court would be issuing arrest warrants against him.

Four cases have been filed against the PTI chairman and other party leaders who are accused in cases pertaining to attacks on SSP Ullah Junejo, PTV office and Parliament during sit-ins back in 2014 and forcibly releasing the suspects.

Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief Tahirul Qadri, along with PTI, had protested and both the parties clashed with policemen. Qadri, Khan and others were later booked for their alleged involvement in the attacks.
