ECP slaps fine on PTI, PML-N candidates as Lodhran by-polls begin

As NA-154 by-elections in Lodhran started on Monday morning, the Election Commission of Pakistan has slapped a fine
Published February 12, 2018

As NA-154 by-elections in Lodhran started on Monday morning, the Election Commission of Pakistan has slapped a fine on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) candidate Ali Tareen, son of Jahangir Tareen and Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz's (PML-N) candidate Muhammad Iqbal Shah.

The ECP has slapped a fine of Rs 40,000 on PTI's candidate for holding a political gathering in Lodhran while PML-N candidate has been given a fine of Rs 30,000 for engaging in political campaigning after the time for electioneering was over.

Although 10 candidates are in the running for the NA-154 by-elections in Lodhran, tough contest is expected among Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Mirza Muhammad Ali Baig, PTI and PML-N's candidates. All will be contesting for the seat that fell vacant after Supreme Court disqualified PTI’s Jahangir Khan Tareen last year in December.

A total of 388 polling stations have been set up where 431,002 voters will cast their votes. Security personnel, including army have been deployed at the polling stations.

As the polling commenced on Monday morning, people cannot help but anticipate the polling results that will be concluded in the evening. Most of them have their eyes on PTI's Ali Tareen as the next elected.
