Hurricane-proof floating homes to be built soon

With an increase in climate change, the number of natural disasters have grown rapidly too, leading to massive destruction. Thus, in order to find a solution, an architect has decided to construct floating homes that would be hurricane proof.

The Dutch architect, Koen Olthuis, is set to design houses on water surface that, along with being hurricane proof, will also produce zero-emissions. Olthuis, with his studio, ‘Waterstudio’ collaborated with company Arkup in order to design the homes.

According to the structure, each house will be 4,350 square feet, containing four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. Because the houses will have solar panels, water purification, and waste management systems, they can be operated completely off the grid, reported Inhabitat.

Scientists plan on dimming the sun to stop climate change

The houses would contain 30kW solar panels with 1,000kWh of lithium-ion batteries. The rainwater would be stored on the roof and transferred to the home’s hull that purifies it for future usage. Having enough space to move around the house in complete comfort, the house also comes in with 24x12 foot sliding terrace which will let residents enjoy the view.

The houses are installed with shock-resistant glass panels for preventing shattering. A hydraulic self-elevating system is present too, which can raise the home in heavy rainfall or hurricane situations, with each hydraulic leg containing the ability to stretch up to 40ft and can also move the house at a speed of 8mph.

Futurism reports, according to Arkup, the livable yachts are ‘a new way of living on the water, making you feel 100% safe and protected’.
