imageSOFIA: Bulgaria's jobless rate edged down to 10.7 percent in December from 10.8 percent a month earlier, the state employment agency said on Wednesday, as Europe's poorest economy battles to generate growth. The number of registered unemployed in the Balkan country of 7.3 million people decreased by 2,553 to 351,051 from a month earlier, the agency said.

It added this was the first time the jobless rate had gone down on a monthly basis in December since 1991.

The agency, which calculates the jobless rate based on the number of officially registered unemployed, said 10,450 people found a new job in December.

The unemployment rate a year ago was 11.8 percent.
