masood-khanISLAMABAD: Pakistan's Permanent Representative to United Nations (UN) Masood Khan has said Pakistan would efficiently lead the UN which was an important responsibility.

Talking to media, he said Pakistan has been chosen to lead the UN for the month of January 2013, and during this period, "We will play an active role in achieving the targets of international community related to global peace."

Masood Khan said the theme set by Pakistan during the month was to form a comprehensive policy to counter terrorism.

He said Pakistan was playing its role as a frontline state in the war against terrorism and had sacrificed a lot for this war, adding the international community also acknowledged its sacrifices.

"We are organizing a dialogue, in which, all the permanent, non-permanent and general body members will participate and give their suggestions," Masood Khan added.

He said the international community must admit that terrorism could not be rooted out only through war, but the causes responsible for it should be eliminated, including poverty and injustice.

Masood Khan said after the Presidential declaration at the end of the dialogue, a comprehensive policy should be formulated and implemented.
