vei234GILGIT: The illegal entry of non-custom paid vehicles into Gilgit-Baltistan via Basari Checkpost is gaining momentum despite the ban by the apex court to stop it.

Official sources disclosed that a gang is actively engaged in smuggling vehicles in collaboration with police.

A senior administration official said Rs 40,000 is being paid as bribe to allow entry in the GB jurisdiction by the police and custom officials.

When contacted the Minister for Excise and Taxation Muhammad Naseer told that a team was being dispatched to take control of the checkpost and regularize the affairs.

He said around 30,000 vehicles exist and soon tax will be imposed on them.

He said complaints regarding illegal entry are sent to police chief and hopefully he would take notice of the matter.
