Gas-Pipeline 400 copyKARACHI: Low gas pressure has massively affected production of leather industry in Korangi Industrial Area Sector 7/A.

Chairman Pakistan Tanners Association (Sindh Zone) Amanullah Aftab has demanded to the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources, Managing Director SSGC and the government to restore adequate pressure in gas  supply to the largest national cluster of exporting leather industry located in Sector 7/A,  KIA.

He pointed out that at present it is peak tanning period of the year and most of the exports depends on tanning under process. “At present tanneries are engaged in processing the huge quantities of hides of sacrificial animals which are continuing to pour in here from across the country”, Aman said adding that the delay in their processing would cause damage to the hides which are in fact foreign  exchange earner for the country.

He explained that the hides of sacrificial animals are stored and served as raw material for the leather Industry during the whole year.

He urged the high ups in Islamabad to come to the rescue of this Industry. He said that exports are continuously sliding down for various reasons over past few years and emphasized for early restoration of gas supply with full pressure along with a conducive atmosphere for this export-oriented leather industry as apart from other things, livelihood of large number of workers is at stake since we lose business to other countries of the region if we fail to deliver on stipulated dates.
