textile ISLAMABAD: The target for export of textile products for fiscal year 2010-11 was set as US$ 10 billion that was surpassed and the actual export growth was recorder as US$ 14 billion.

Minister of State for Commerce, Abbas Sarfaraz replying to a question during Question hour in the National Assembly, on Monday informed the House that the target set for export of textile products for the fiscal year 2011-12 is US$ 15 billion.

He said the ministry has taken several steps to enhance the export of textile products including initiative for greater market access through local and foreign exhibitions and meaningful participation of national and international buyers and sellers.

He said the ministry participated in 15 international exhibitions of textile in 2010-11 and 14 in 2011-12 and has planned to participate in 16 international exhibitions in 2012-13.

He said that the ministry organizes the annual event of Expo Pakistan where textile importers directly negotiate with the Pakistani exporters and a considerable numbers of business orders take place every year.

He said the ministry is focusing on exploring the feasibility of preferential trade agreements (PTAs) and foreign trade agreements (FTAs) to enhance the exports of garment sector.

The minister said the ministry is also working to promote country?s trade with other countries and to ensure optimum market access opportunities for core export products in global markets.

He said an amount of 3196.9 US$ million has been incurred, by the public and private sector, on the import of chemical fertilizers during the year 2008 till present. He added the fertilizers imported by public sector were distributed through National Fertilizers Marketing Limited, working under the umbrella of Ministry of Industries.
