(Karachi) Information Minister Shibli Faraz has said that the government cannot compel citizens to stay indoors for an indefinite period. He added the government accepts Supreme Court's decision of opening shopping malls and markets.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Monday, Faraz said it is essential for public to follow precautionary measures to curb spread of the coronavirus, especially since malls and markets are opening once again.

He maintained, "Coronavirus is here and no one knows how long it will stay. But we appeal to the public, that just because things are opening up, they can't continue on with the lives they lead before the virus."

"We have to keep taking precautionary measures, we have to show responsibility during this time," he remarked.

The minister pointed out that industries will operate during Eid holidays as daily wagers have already been badly affected due to lockdown situation in the country.

Referring to opposition's criticism, he asked them to refrain from politicising the COVID-19 situation, especially the Sindh government. Faraz said, "The PM has shown concern to help the poor from the beginning and to survive the pandemic."
