Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and Pakistan Muslim League-N President Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday again skipped the hearing of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in assets beyond means and money laundering cases citing "threat to his life due to coronavirus outbreak and cancer survivor with low immunity".

This was the second time that the younger Sharif did not appear before the anti-graft watchdog on medical grounds despite clear warning of "dire consequences" to him by the Bureau in case of non-cooperation with investigators. "In case of no cooperation with the national institution (by Shehbaz Sharif), the law has the right to take its due course," read a NAB's categorical statement issued on Monday after Shehbaz skipped the hearing.

However, the NAB asked Shehbaz to appear before its combined investigation team (CIT) on May 4 and provide the complete details of his business income as claimed before the Federal Board of Revenue along with investment and its volume and expenditures incurred during the period when his Model Town residence was declared the chief minister house/camp office.

In a reply submitted to the Bureau, Shehbaz had said that he had been questioned "at great length about his entire career and assets while in NAB's custody on physical remand" and "furnished whatever information was sought and was available". He added all his assets were on record and he had been regularly updating the concerned authorities about his assets.
