Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah Saturday said his government has launched Rs 1.61 billion schemes to rehabilitate Karachi Fish Harbor apart from providing boats and nets to poor fishermen worth Rs 100 million.

This will help fishermen work in an improved atmosphere at the harbor as they would have their own boats and nets.

This he said while presiding over a meeting to review ongoing development schemes in District West at the CM House. The meeting was attended by provincial ministers Nisar Khuhro, Shabbir Bijarani, Saeed Ghani, Syed Nasir Shah, Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Mumtaz Shah, P&D Chairman M Waseem, special assistants to the CM, Waqar Mehdi, Rashid Rabbani, MNA Qadir Patel and MPAs of the area.

West: In Dist West, 78 schemes of Rs 5 billion are in progress, against which Rs 1.85 billion have been released while Rs 866.519 million have been utilized which is 47 percent of the releases. There are eight such schemes of Rs 79.115 million for which total funds have been released while there are 14 other schemes of Rs 1.8 billion for which funds were being released in two instalments. These schemes would be completed by the end of current financial year.

The important schemes in progress in District West are as follows:

Rehabilitation and expansion of 96 high priority school for Rs 174.3 million, provision of missing facilities to primary and secondary schools of Baldia for Rs 612 million. Strengthening of Qatar Hospital for Rs 422.3 million, establishment of Cardiac Emergency Center at Baldia for Rs 472.4 million. Construction of 200-beded hospital at Mominabad, Metrovile for Rs 751.09 million, establishment of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto 100-beded hospital near Jungle Shah, Keamari for Rs 306.6 million.

Provision of fishing boats, engines and nets to poor fishermen for Rs 100 million, rehabilitation of Karachi Fish Harbor for Rs 1.61 billion and rehabilitation of Hub Canal for Rs 392.6 million. The Hub scheme would provide 50 MGD water to the people of District West, said the chief minister and added that at present this water goes in seepage as the canal had developed wide cracks.

The chief minister directed the elected representatives of the area to keep the ongoing works visited so that their quality and pace of work could be ensured.

Central: The chief minister also discussed some schemes of District Central which could not be discussed in the last meeting. The schemes which came under discussion were as follows:

Expansion and improvement of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to the level of tertiary care hospital for Rs 1.57 billion. The chief minister said that Abbasi Shaheed Hospital would have a male nursing school. Its all seven lifts would be replaced and the hospital would have its own management information system. He added that the Hospital would have ENT/Eye and Fascio Maxillary Block which would be constructed for Rs 334.1 million.

Establishment of Administration Block at Karachi Institute of Heart Disease (KIHD) for Rs 170.58 million. At this the chief minister said that a nursing training institute at KIHD would also be established for Rs 490 million.

Shah said that he has allocated Rs 1.1 billon for revamping Gujjar Nallah, which also includes a service road. A park at Landi Kotal Chowrangi for Rs 40 million is also being established.
