Sugar and cooking oil prices have witnessed a sudden jump from Rs 3,800 per 50-kg bag to Rs 4,025 per 50-kg bag and from Rs 225 per kg to Rs 254 per kg, respectively, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed here on Saturday.

The survey observed that within the past two weeks, sugar price jumped up from Rs 3,500 per 50-kg bag to Rs 4,025 per 50 kg bag which in retail market has increased to Rs 85 per kg from Rs 73 per kg. During the week under review, ghee/cooking oil prices also witnessed a significant increase as good quality cooking oil/ ghee prices went up from Rs 225 per kg to Rs 254 per kg.

However, prices of vegetables and fruits witnessed a declining trend during the week under review as tomatoes prices went down from Rs 300 per 5 kg to Rs 200 per 5 kg which in retail market were being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 80 per kg, onions price reduced from Rs 250 per 5 kg to Rs 200 per 5 kg which in retail market were being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 60 per kg and potatoes prices reduced from Rs 200 per 5 kg to Rs 150 per 5 kg which in retail market were being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 50 per kg.

During the week under review, eggs price in wholesales market came down from Rs 110 per dozen to Rs 100 per dozen which in retail market were being sold at Rs 110 per dozen against Rs 120-125 per dozen, chicken price also witnessed a decline as live chicken prices went down from Rs 225 per kg to Rs 190 per kg and chicken meat from Rs 350 per kg to 300 per kg.

Prices of all the major pulses remained stable as fine quality white lentil (Maash) was available at Rs 250 per kg, normal quality lentil price reached Rs 220 per kg, fine quality grams pulse was being sold at Rs 200 per kg and normal quality grams at Rs 180 per kg, fine quality kidney bean (Lobia) was being sold at Rs 200 per kg, green gram (Moong) at Rs 240 per kg and red fine quality lentil (Masoor) was available at Rs 200 per kg.

Price of garlic went up from Rs 900 per 5kg to Rs 1,200 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 350 per kg against Rs 280 per kg and ginger price went up from Rs 1,100 per 5 kg to Rs 1,500 per 5 kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 400 per kg against Rs 330 per kg.

Capsicum price went up down from Rs 800 per 5kg to Rs 600 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 130-145 per kg against Rs 180 per kg; yam (arvi) price remained stable at Rs 800 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 190 per kg; carrot price went down from Rs 130 per 5 kg to Rs 100 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 30 per kg against Rs 35-40 per kg, radish price went down from Rs 120 per 5kg to Rs 100 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 25 per kg against Rs 30 per kg.

Brinjal price went down from Rs 600 per 5 kg to Rs 400 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 100 per kg against Rs 140 per kg, okra price went down from Rs 1,100 per 5kg to Rs 800 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 225 against Rs 300 per kg, pumpkin price went down from Rs 600 per 5kg to Rs 450 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 100 per kg against Rs 140 per kg and bitter gourd price remained stable at Rs 700 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 150 per kg.

Cauliflower price went down from Rs 225 per 5 kg to Rs 175 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 45 per kg against Rs 55 per kg, cabbage price went up from Rs 250 per 5kg to Rs 300 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 60 per kg and beans price went up from Rs 600 per 5kg to Rs 650 per 5kg which in retail market were being sold at Rs 160 per kg against Rs 150 per kg.

Fruit prices also witnessed a declining trend as white apple price went down from Rs 110 per kg to Rs 100 per kg, Pakistan Kala Kolo apple price went down from Rs 135 per kg to Rs 125 per kg, Iranian Kala Kolo apple price went down from Rs 150 per kg to Rs 135 per kg and golden apple price went down from Rs 120 per kg to Rs 110 per kg. Good quality banana price remained stable at Rs 70 per dozen, normal quality banana at Rs 45-55 per dozen, and guava price went up from Rs 35 per kg to Rs 75 per kg. Various qualities of oranges were available in the range of Rs 45 per dozen to Rs 200 per dozen, pomegranates were available in the range of Rs 175-275 per kg and melons were available at Rs 75 per kg.
