The council of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on Thursday expressed concerns over delay in the release of Rs 162 billion 'Karachi Package' that was announced at a meeting of the Karachi Transformation Committee.

The council session was presided over by Deputy Mayor Arshad Hasan, held at the Old KMC building. The legislators demanded immediate release of Rs 162 billion funds along with a package for current year to improve the civic infrastructure of this neglected metropolis.

The council approved an 18-point agenda with various private resolutions.

Through another resolution the council gave approval of the up-gradation of school of nursing in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) into college.

The council also lauded a 16-member KMC Urban Search & Rescue team for performing well in rescue and search operation after the collapse of a residential building in Sukkur.

Other resolutions which were passed by the council include the maintenance of graveyards, right of collection of licence fee for chicken meat shops, repairing of fire tenders, amendment in the rate of fee for raw skin in the KMC slaughter house etc. Metropolitan Commissioner and Secretary of the Council Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rehman also attended the meeting.
