The federal Cabinet which is scheduled to meet on Tuesday (Dec 24) will approve nine new board members of the National Power Parks Management Company (NPPMC).

National Power Parks Management Company (Pvt) Limited, 100 percent owned by the government, was mandated to establish and operate two RLNG-based power plants - at Balloki district Kasur and Haveli Bahadar Shah district Jhang with a capacity of 1223 MW and 1230 MW respectively.

With the approval of the Prime Minister, the Board of the company was constituted comprising the following: (i) Ch. Asif Saeed (private); (ii) Asad Ali Khan (private); (iii) Nouman Khan (private);(iv) Syed Maratab Ali; (v) Pir Saad Ahsanuddin (private); (vi) two representatives of Ministry of Water and Power (official); (vii) representative of Ministry of Finance (official); (viii) Managing Director SNGPL( official); and (ix) Chief Executive Officer NPPMCL (ex-officio).

Subsequently, the following private members tendered their resignations: (i) Pir Saad Ahsanuddin (July 2, 2015), Asad Ali Khan (July 12, 2018), Syed Maratab Ali (July 26, 2018), Nouman Khan (February 20, 2019) and Arif Saeed (October 7, 2019).

The sources said, Public Sector Companies (Corporate Governance) Rules, 2013 requires that the Board of private sector company shall have at least 1/3rd independent board members. The company approached the Power Division with the request to either appoint new board or to fill the five vacancies of independent board members enabling it to comply with corporate governance rules.

Since both projects of the company are on the list of active privatisation the Government of Pakistan, therefore, in order to ensure smooth and compliant functions of the National Power Parks Management Company has proposed the following candidates as board members: (i) Nasir Gulzar (private); (ii) Irfan Ikram (private); (iii) Mahfuz-ur-Rehman Pasha (private); (iv) Shehryar Chishti (private); (v) Tabrez Alam Shamsi; (vi) MD PPIB (ex-officio);(vii) representative of Power Division (BS-20)(ex-officio); (viii) representative of Finance Division (BS 20)(ex-officio); and (ix) CEO (ex-officio).

The cabinet is also expected to consider the case of Maryum Nawaz Sharif for removal of name from the ECL.

Other agenda items of the cabinet are as follows;(i) ratification of the decisions of ECC taken on December 12, 2019;(ii) posting of senior member, Federal Land Commission;(iii)appointment of President/CEO First Women Bank Limited ;(iv) appointment of CEO, Exim Bank of Pakistan;(v) issuance of direction of federal government to SBP under sub-section 6(a) of SBP, Act, 1956 to sell its share in HBFC;(vi) appointment of Chairperson and members of National Commission for Human Rights;(vii) appointment of members of Board of Trustees Pakistan Telecommunication Employees Trust;(viii) reconstitution of Board, Executive Committee ad amendments in the Rules of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) ;(ix) grant of special relief package for population living along Line of Control (LoC) under BISP;(x) deputation of General Manager (Ops)( BS -21) Karachi Port Trust (KPT) from Pakistan Navy;( xi) filing up the post General Manager (Finance) BS-20/21 ;(xii) appointment of Commander Karachi, Pakistan Navy as member Board of Trustees of Karachi Port Trust ( Maritime Affairs Division) ;(xiii) approval of maximum retail prices of drugs and ;(xiv) appointment of Executive Director, Lok, Virsa, Islamabad.
