Bid to smuggle drugs to Punjab foiled

The Customs Intelligence Department here on Tuesday thwarted a bid to smuggle drugs to Punjab during checking on Peshawar Motorway toll plaza. The customs squad opened firing on driver in retaliation, in which he escaped.

The Customs Intelligence Department here on Tuesday thwarted a bid to smuggle drugs to Punjab during checking on Peshawar Motorway toll plaza. The customs squad opened firing on driver in retaliation, in which he escaped.

According to the details, the drugs was smuggling in a Toyota corolla car to Punjab. Getting information, Additional Director Syed Faisal Bukhari ordered formation of a team under supervision of Deputy Director Najeeb Arjumand.

The custom intelligence squad chased a GLI car bearing number LI 515 â€" Islamabad after passing through check point near Peshawar Toll Plaza.

The car driver opened fire on custom squad after which the squad also fired in retaliation. The driver escaped, leaving the car at a few meters distance on motorway.

On checking, the 3.2 kilogram hashish and 13.80 Afiyoon found, which was concealed in hidden parts of the vehicle.

Meanwhile, on tip off, the Customs intelligence in another action, seized foreign tyres worth Rs 20million in DI Khan, which were smuggling on 22 wheelers to Punjab. The customs intelligence started investigation in both cases.
