India admits ‘big mistake’ of downing its own Mi-17 during dogfight with Pakistan on Feb 27

• IAF has admitted it shot down its own Mi-17 chopper.
• The chief of IAF has said action will be taken against IAF officers.

After nearly eight months, India has acknowledged and admitted that the Mi-17 chopper that crashed in Srinagar on February 27 was its own mistake and shot down by them.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief Rakesh Kumar Bhadauria said that Court of Inquiry has been completed and it reveals that the crash was IAF's mistake as their own missile hit the Mi-17. "We will take action against the two officers. We accept this was our big mistake and we will ensure such mistakes are not repeated in the future," the IAF chief said.

On February 27, Mi-17 helicopter crashed at Budgam, near Srinagar and killed six IAF personnel. In August, a high-level probe had concluded that surface-to-air missile of the IAF had brought down the aircraft during the dogfight between Indian and Pakistani air forces.
