BIARRITZ: Japan's prime minister Shinzo Abe on Sunday called North Korea's latest missile test a violation of UN rules and said it was "extremely regrettable".

"The launch of short-range ballistic missiles by North Korea clearly violates the relevant UN Security Council resolutions," Abe said alongside President Donald Trump, who contradicted him, saying the tests were not a violation.

"It was extremely regrettable for us," Abe said, on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Biarritz, France.
