Italy's Salvini says Giorgetti a top candidate for economic EU role

ROME: Italy's cabinet secretary Giancarlo Giorgetti would be one of the best candidates to take a top economic post in the next European Commission, Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini said on Monday.

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said earlier this month he hoped Italy would receive the influential competition portfolio in the next European Commission, adding that he expected Salvini's League party would pick who should take the job.
