Published June 11, 2019

An accountability court granted on Tuesday the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) the physical remand of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari in the money laundering through fake accounts case.

Earlier, a NAB team presented the PPP co-chairman before an accountability court. The PPP leader was presented before the court amid strict security.

Before his arrival at the court, a three-member team of the Polyclinic conducted a medical examination of Zardari, local media reported. Accountability court Judge Mohammad Arshad Malik was presented with the reports in his chambers.

During the hearing today, NAB prosecutor requested 14-day physical remand of the former president which was opposed by Zardari's counsel Farooq H. Naek.

The former president was arrested on Monday evening after the IHC rejected petition seeking extension in the pre-arrest bail. A team of NAB arrived at the Zardari House along with a team of police personnel, including female officials.

PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto and his youngest sister Aseefa Bhutto were with their father when he was arrested by NAB and was taken to NAB's Rawalpindi office in a black bulletproof vehicle.
