A special court accepted on Thursday former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf's request to adjourn the treason case against him till the end of the holy month of Ramazan.

The treason case was heard by a three-member bench, headed by Judge Tahira Safdar. During the hearing today, Musharraf's lawyer Salman Safdar told the bench that his client's doctors have advised Musharraf not to travel due to his health issues, local media reported. The lawyer further said that Musharraf is unable to move and has experienced weight loss.

Safdar also submitted the former president's medical history and test reports to the court. The lawyer told the bench that Musharraf is extremely apologetic for not appearing before the court. Safdar added that the case against Musharraf had been lodged in 2007 and his client had returned to Pakistan in 2013.

Safdar further said that his client had been in Pakistan for 2 years but the prosecution could not prove its case. He requested the court to adjourn the case proceedings till the holy month of Ramazan.

The special court has also issued a notice to the government over a plea for acquittal of Musharraf in the case. The bench then adjourned the case proceedings till June 12.

In line with the Supreme Court's orders, the trial court is scheduled to record the former president's statement under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code to complete the treason trial.
