Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday constituted a seven-member committee to prepare recommendations on formulating the legal, political and diplomatic response to Indian government's illegal action of revoking the special status of the occupied Jammu and Kashmir. According to PM House, the committee comprises Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Attorney General for Pakistan Anwar Mansoor Khan, Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor, Director General Military Operations Maj General Nauman Zakaria and Ahmed Bilal Sufi, special envoy.
"The Prime Minister has been pleased to constitute, with immediate effect, a seven-member team who shall make recommendations to formulate legal/political/diplomatic response on the latest developments related to Indian occupied Kashmir," according to the notification.
Pakistan strongly condemned and rejected the illegal actions, and also announced that as party to the international dispute, it will exercise all possible options to counter the illegal steps. "The Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognised disputed territory. No unilateral step by the government of India can change this disputed status, as enshrined in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions. Nor will this ever be acceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan," the Foreign Office said in its response to the illegal steps by Modi government.
Sources familiar with the development told Business Recorder that the government is in the process of consultation to look into various options including approaching the UN Security Council, besides the option to approach International Court of Justice (ICJ) against the controversial move. They said that Pakistan High Commissioner to New Delhi will also be called back for consultations.
