A two-week special vaccination campaign against ten fatal diseases on Monday kicked off in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to provincial health department, children across the province will be vaccinated against measles, hepatitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, polio and other fatal diseases during the campaign.
Officials of Emergency Operation Centre Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that vaccination against 10 preventable diseases including polio will be done at health centres and at outreach centres established in the hujras of local elders in district Peshawar. They said that total of 280 EPI Technicians will conduct 3782 outreach sessions in the two weeks long campaign in the district whereas vaccination services will also be provided in 121 fixed centres.
A total of 2411 CHW and 684 area in-charges will mobilize the community in close coordination and supervision of 103 UPEC chairmen, the officials said. For this purpose, the officials said that the camp will be set in health centres along with local guest houses (Hujras) to ensure vaccination to children at their doorstep. They said the people from different walks of life need to sensitize the masses, especially parents about importance of the vaccination against 10 crippling diseases of children.
The officials said that the health authorities have made sufficient arrangements to make the vaccination campaign successful with support of locals and parents, which will continue in next two weeks in Peshawar.
