A special committee of Senate on Friday said class-related deprivation issues among different parts of the country especially erstwhile tribal areas and Balochistan could not be resolved without dialogue. A meeting of the Senate special committee to 'examine the purported grievances among some section of the society and reach out/engage with the genuinely aggrieved persons to create national cohesion,' was held here with Senator Barrister Saif in the chair.
Senator Saif said the committee had held several meetings with Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) leadership and after listening to the grievances, reached a conclusion that there is no solution to the issue except holding talks with people seeking their right. "This is not only PTM with which we call for dialogue, all the aggrieved segment of the society who, if think, they're being deprived of their genuine rights, need to be engaged and things can be resolved through talks," Senator Saif maintained.
During the meeting, he called upon the committee members to play their due role in a bid to resolve the grievances of the people, adding we all should play our constitutional and legal responsibilities to ensure that political issues should be resolved through dialogue. Barrister Saif said the upper House realized the class difference and economic injustices faced by different segments of the society and that it was for this particular reason that the Senate had formed the special committee. He said the committee would play the role of a bridge between the oppressed masses and the government.
Other committee members also stressed on a peaceful resolution to the issues highlighted by the movement and said parliament was an empowered institution and that all disputes could be resolved through the parliamentary passage. We have made a good start and the upper House will raise its voice on the issue. However, there is a need for a roadmap so that we can formulate solid recommendations and implement them, members said. The said committee headed by Barrister Saif has held several meetings with estranged PTM leaders in the past, on the orders of Senate chairman, for finding an amicable solution to their demands.
