The NHA Executive Board instructed to resubmit the PC-I for SNHRIP amounting to Rs 42.492 billion after short-term implementation plan of Axle Load Control Regime is enforced. The Board further directed that political backup must be ensured for successful implementation of the SNHRIP project. For implementation of axle load by NH&MP, there should be sufficient provision of funds in the project for field staff of NH&MP and allied facilities ie. residences, vehicles, POL, etc.
Ministry of Communications has decided to strictly implement the axle load limit from Saturday ie. June 01, 2019 on all national highways and motorways to protect this precious asset from damaging effects of overloading throughout the country. According to National Highway Authority (NHA) Spokesperson, the measure is being covered under the National Highway Safety Ordinance-2000. The vehicles carrying load beyond the fixed limit will not be allowed to travel on motorways and national highways and from weigh stations they will be returned to their generating points.
On directive of Federal Secretary Communications Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui implementation of axle load limit will be realized from Saturday (today). To this effect, a series of meetings were held between Ministry of Communications and representatives of Goods Transport Agencies and Truck Drivers Associations hailing from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Proposals presented by representatives of transporter organizations were included in the implementation plan. Representatives of the goods transport agencies, owners of industrial units, law enforcing agencies and provincial governments have assured to extend their full cooperation to abide by the rules and regulations concerning Axle Load Management and adding that over loading would be avoided. In case of violation, legal action will take against the violators.
NHA Officials said that implementation of axle load limit will not only pave the way to control accidents on National Highways & Motorways network but it will also help protect the precious national asset of National Highways & Motorways, as heavy amounts are spent on construction and maintenance of National Highways & Motorways throughout the country. In order to keep safe this asset, a comprehensive course of action is being adopted with cooperation of all the stakeholders.
