ANP president Asfandyar Wali Khan has condemned firing and violence against the sit-in participants in North Waziristan and has demanded release of arrested persons and provision of treatment facilities to the injured.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, the ANP chief asked the government to develop the substance of tolerance and avoid the creation of such an environment that can become a threat to the country and democracy. He said the rulers are not tolerating those who are raising voice for their genuine rights in the state and in desperation taking such kind of decision that are pushing the country towards disintegration.
He alleged that there are two separate laws for protestors in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In Punjab, he said protestors are rewarded while in KP they are targeted with bullets. He said firing and violence against the protestors in the month of Ramazan is unforgettable story.
He said the state should embrace its citizens as firing bullets on peaceful protestors is justice nowhere. "What kind of message is to the world through firing bullets on tribesmen," he questioned.
Asfandyar Wali urged upon the youth to remain peaceful otherwise some forces will succeed in their designs. He also expressed concern over firing on those who had rendered sacrifices for peace. He said that those using force against opponents should remembered their container.
The veteran politician was also critical of the negative role played by media in the incident and asked to tell the nation that who is stopping from showing the other side of the picture.
He said that protest is the fundamental right of every citizen and those enjoying the reign of powers should show courage of facing the reality. He asked the government to show seriousness and adopt the culture of tolerance for democracy. He said that political confrontation is also not a good omen for the nation and country. He was of the opinion that tolerance and patience has big importance for maintaining national solidarity and peace.
