Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) Saturday took exception to the remarks of director general Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) regarding the activities of a political group. Vice-Chairman Pakistan Bar Council Syed Amjad Shah said, "The remarks of the DG ISPR regarding activities of a specific political party being beyond his authority are not in accordance with constitutional provisions."
The remarks of DG ISPR amount to intrusion in authority of a civil government and are condemnable, he added. The PBC press statement said that Pakistan being a democratic republic is supposed to be governed and run under the constitutional mandates which specifically determines and prescribes the role and duties of different organs of the State.
It is, therefore, the responsibility, under the Constitution, of the executive to speak about the activities of a political party and take an action against it if such activities are found against the interest and sovereignty of the State. Any other institution, in no way, is authorised under the Constitution to comment upon and take action in that regard.
