Pakistan has accepted India's proposal for a meeting of technical experts of two countries on Kartarpur Corridor to be held on April 16, the Foreign Office said. Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal tweeted, "Continuing with Pakistan's spirit of constructive engagement, we have agreed to the Indian proposal for a technical meeting on April 16."
He also stated that Pakistan expects positivity from India so that the Corridor becomes reality for the 550th anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak in November 2019. The meeting between the technical experts of two countries will take place at Kartarpur point. The development comes following the Indian side unilaterally postponed the April 2 meeting at Wagah Border, as New Delhi had sought clarification on its proposals on the modalities of the Corridor and its concerns about appointments to a committee to be associated with Kartarpur Corridor.
Regretting the Indian government's decision, the Foreign Office stated that the 10-member purely religious committee referred to by India (Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee) is not specific to Kartarpur Sahib but is responsible for upkeep of all Sikh Gurdwaras in Pakistan. "It is not a new mechanism but was constituted under the Section 3 of the Scheme for Renovation, Maintenance and Preservation of Sikh Holy Shrines in 2004 and is reconstituted after every 3 years," it added.
