Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday expressed disappointment over the Islamabad High Court's (IHC) dismissal of bail petition of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and announced that it may file appeal against the verdict. A meeting of the parliamentary party of PML-N was held here at the Parliament House in which the IHC's decision was thoroughly discussed, besides other issues such as the warmongering by India, worst human rights violations in Indian-held Kashmir and the deteriorating state of economy in the country.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Spokesperson PML-N Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the party respects the country's courts, adding that the court's decision of rejecting the bail petition of Nawaz Sharif is a total "disappointment." She said that the legal team of the party will make deliberations on the detailed judgement of the IHC. In the light of the deliberation by the legal team, she said that the party will adopt an appropriate legal way against the rejection of the bail petition of Nawaz Sharif.
She said that the five medical boards in their recommendations had diagnosed Nawaz Sharif with cardiac issues which show the hardship in this matter. She said that the meeting called for shifting Nawaz Sharif to a hospital available with the treatment of cardiac patients, adding that the Punjab government should make implementation on the recommendations of medical boards.
Earlier, talking to media persons outside the IHC after the verdict was announced, former prime minister and senior PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the court's decision is "upsetting," despite the medical boards' recommendations, asking for immediate medical treatment of Nawaz Sharif. "We're hopeful that Nawaz Sharif's bail will be accepted on medical grounds for his treatment, the party has always respected courts' decisions and we respect this decision as well," he said, adding that the party will take all possible legal routes against the verdict.
He noted that the medical treatment required by Nawaz Sharif cannot be provided in jail and for the reason, it is necessary to grant him the bail. "On these grounds, we filed a plea before the court. His [Nawaz Sharif] treatment can be done in Pakistan or abroad but not in jail," he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Asif indicated that the party will file a review petition against the IHC's verdict and hoped that "justice will be served."
Sharing further details of the parliamentary party meeting with the media persons, Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the meeting criticized the "delayed" response of Prime Minister Imran Khan to the Indian threats in the wake of Pulwama attack. She said that the meeting expressed concern over the India's warmongering and condemned the threatening tones by Indian leadership and the steps to threaten the peace and stability within South Asia. She said that the meeting also condemned the Indian atrocities and human rights violations in occupied Kashmir and called upon the Indian government to ensure protection of lives of the people in the light of local and international laws.
She further said that the meeting also expressed serious concern over the worsening economic situation and condemned the rise in gas and electricity tariffs, adding that it was decided that the party would give a tough time to the government on the issues of price hike and inflation. She further said that the meeting also condemned the arrest of Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani as well as reluctance of the speaker National Assembly to issue production order for Khawaja Saad Rafiq. She also urged the speaker to immediately issue the production order for the party's jailed leader as per the parliamentary and democratic practices.
The PML-N spokesperson further said that the party also condemned the "political victimization" of the opposition allegedly through the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
