Serious allegations were exchanged between Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Mir Munawar Ali Talpur and Dr Fehmida Mirza of Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) in National Assembly on Monday. Without mentioning the name of Dr Fehmida Mirza; Munwar Ali Talpur while speaking on the floor of the National Assembly said that she and her family have got their Rs. 880 million loans written off and the case should be registered against them.
He said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) should send a reference against them to investigate the matter. He strongly condemned the arrest of Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani and said if the NAB has any proof then it should present it before the nation. He said that NAB team attacked the house of the Sindh Assembly speaker and made his family, including women, hostage. "It is tantamount to attack on democracy. We are not against the accountability but it should be conducted across the board without any discrimination," he said.
While responding to Talpur, Dr Fehmida said that he should not level wrong allegations against her family; otherwise, she would expose all of them. "They should not force me to disclose every thing against them," she claimed.
While categorically denying any writing off loans, she said, "I will bring report of the State Bank of Pakistan. I did not get my loan written off and I challenge them to bring any proof," she added. "They looted the Sindh Bank and Summit Bank and in this regard I will present proofs with documents," she alleged.
Dr Fehmida also claimed, "Faryal Talpur, wife of Mir Munwar Ali Talpur, is playing the role of the Sindh chief minister. They conducted attacks on my house. The cases of terrorism should be lodged against them."
On these remarks, PPP women lawmakers and Mir Munwar Ali Talpur stood up and encircled the speaker's dice. They asked the speaker to stop her (Mirza) and give floor to them to respond to her.
Dr Fehmida said that her father Qazi Abdul Majeed Abid and grandfather Qazi Abdul Qayyum had good reputation. He said that her forefathers played an important role for this country.
PPP leader Naveed Qamar said that the members should use decent language, adding that they should maintain the decorum of the House. They should not speak in a way to raise the temperature of the House. He said that it is not appropriate to mention the name of spouse of Mir Munwar Ali Talpur.
While condemning the arrest of the Sindh Assembly speaker, he said, "This is not accountability. The speaker is custodian of the House and his/her chair is respectable. It is our duty to defend the institutions."
