Contingents of Karachi based industrial bodies and CNG associations of Sindh under the leadership of Zubair Motiwala and Abdul Sami Khan respectively, Friday met the management of SSGC at its head office to discuss the current scenario of gas supplies.
During these meetings SSGC's Acting Managing Director Imran Farookhi clarified the situation and informed the house(s) that due to the recent cold waves that have struck the Company's franchise areas specially Quetta and Karachi, there has been a substantial increase in demand of 100 mmcfd gas mainly needed for the heating purpose. Due to this enhanced demand of gas, Company is facing greater difficulty in supplying gas to its domestic and commercial customers.
During the meeting, the industrial leaders, understanding the current situation and realizing the needs of domestic and commercial users of natural gas, agreed to completely shut down their units for Sunday, February 10, 2019 in the entire 7 industrial zones of Sindh. It was also agreed that all captive power units of general industries would work at 50% capacity.
At the same time, realizing the enhanced gas demand of domestic and commercial customers, the representatives of CNG associations also agreed to SSGC's decision of observing a complete gas holiday at their stations on Saturday, February 9, 2019.
It may be noted that all these recent steps taken by SSGC's management are in adherence to the gas load management plan, duly approved by the Government of Pakistan in order to facilitate the domestic and commercial users of natural gas that are on the top priority as per ECC's list. In this regards, Company however regrets the inconvenience caused to its customers.-PR
