Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has demanded Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah's resignation on ethical ground since he is facing serious allegations of corruption. In a media briefing on Monday, the information minister said that the government has no intention to enforce Governor's Rule in Sindh.
Chaudhry also dismissed impression that the federal government wants to interfere or destabilise the Sindh government. The minister said, "Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed that no such impression should be attributed to the federal government."
Fawad asserted that the accountability process under the leadership of Imran Khan will continue unabated, adding that it will bring economic stability to Pakistan. Commenting on Bilawal Bhutto's remarks that PPP can topple Imran Khan's government if Zardari allows, Chaudhry said, "How can Bilawal topple PTI government if his father Asif Ali Zardari fails to do so?"
Chaudhry said that two PTI ministers had resigned after inquiries were launched in light of allegations against them, adding that the Sindh chief minister should also tender his resignation in principle. The minister reiterated that a few members of Sindh Assembly belonging to PPP are in contact with him, hinting at emergence of a forward bloc in the provincial ruling party. "PPP MPAs have contacted me over telephone. Therefore, [CM] Murad Ali Shah should himself tender his resignation; otherwise, the assembly will do the needful."
"The foundation of the Sindh government is weak, its shaking, which is why they think we are bringing a change in the province... We don't want to interfere at all," said Chaudhry. He said that Zardari and Nawaz Sharif want the government to change the definition of corruption. He claimed that Zardari had a network in Sindh and Nawaz in Punjab, adding that they had a code of conduct to save each other.
