Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is examining a proposal to restore positions of FBR Member Inland Revenue (IR) north and FBR Member IR-South, formerly known as Members Domestic Operations North and South, to improve working of the Inland Revenue operations across the country.
It is reliably learnt that the idea of FBR Member Inland Revenue (IR) North and FBR Member IR-South is under discussion of the FBR Board-in-Council. The new FBR's organisational structure is being examined by the tax authorities. If these positions are created, the FBR will bring them under FBR Member Inland Revenue Policy or FBR Member IR Operations.
If such positions are created, the jurisdiction and functions of the new members would clearly specify duties of each member under reforms. In the past, the positions may be called FBR Member Inland Revenue (IR) North and FBR Member IR-South or Members Domestic Operations North and South.
FBR Member Domestic Operations (North) were responsible for supervising domestic tax operations of northern field offices. FBR Member Domestic Operations (South) was responsible for supervising domestic tax operations of southern field offices.
In 2009, the FBR had issued an office order to create posts of 12 members i.e. Member Customs Operations, Member Domestic Operations (North), Member Domestic Operations (South), Member Facilitation and Taxpayer Education, Member Enforcement and Accounting, Member Taxpayer Audit, Member Direct Taxes, Member Indirect Taxes, Member Customs (Policy), Member Strategic Planning, Research and Statistics, Member Legal and Member Administration and Human Resources.
In 2012, Federal Board of Revenue Member Inland Revenue (IR) North and FBR Member IR-South were directly working under the supervision of Senior Member Inland Revenue (Policy) as per past FBR's organisational structure. At that time, FBR's organisational structure at the headquarters was specified as the chain of command to clearly define reporting system at the level of the FBR.
