Prime Minister Imran Khan has urged the nation not to be instigated by the elements protesting against the Supreme Court decision as this is not a service to Islam; rather, it is a disservice to the country. The prime minister said that after the announcement of the verdict, the language used by a small group against the judges of the Supreme Court that they deserve to be murdered and the Chief of Army Staff is not a Muslim, besides urging the Army to revolt against the COAS, forced him to address to the nation.
"Saying that the judges of the Supreme Court are 'Wajib-ul-Qatl' and the army chief is a 'non-Muslim', and calling for a revolt against the Chief Justice and the Army Chief. This is unacceptable," said the prime minister.
The prime minister said, "Pakistan is the only country in the history of the world after the State of Medina that was made in the name of Islam which means that no law of Pakistan can be against the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah". He said that verdict given by the judges is in accordance with the Constitution and Pakistan's Constitution is subordinate to the Holy Quran and Sunnah. He appealed to the nation, "Don't allow these elements to instigate you as all this was done to increase the vote bank. The kind of language used by them against the army that has made great sacrifices in war against terrorism can only be used by the enemy."
Khan also appealed to the protestors not to take on against the state and harm the country; otherwise, the government will fulfil its responsibility and protect life and property of the people and will not allow disruption of movement.
He said that he has been repeatedly stating that Pakistan is going to become a great country and that can be done only by adopting the principles of a welfare state laid down by the State of Medina. He further said that a Muslim's faith cannot be completed until he loves Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) more than any body else.
Khan maintained that present government has done practically that was never done by any government and when a Dutch parliamentarian committed disrespect of the Holy Prophet (PBHU) and published derogatory caricature, Pakistan was the only country in the Islamic world that complained to it and spoke to their minister and ambassador and later the Dutch parliamentarian removed the caricature.
He said that matter was also raised at OIC and the UN and as a result, European Court of Human Rights had decided for the first time that disrespect of the Holy Prophet (PBHU) does not fall under freedom of expression.
"We have taken practical steps to prove that the government cannot tolerate any disrespect of the Holy Prophet (PBHU)." He further said he would like to ask a question as how a government can function when any body asks his followers to kill the judges and urge generals to revolt against the Army Chief and bring people to the street. He said there is no fault of the government and no government can function in such circumstances.
The prime minister said that they (a small group of people) are trying to give message if the Supreme Court does not give decision according to their aspiration, they will not accept it and come out on the streets. He said that they are causing a loss to the country and to the poor who work on daily basis to earn their livelihoods.
He further said the government is struggling to steer the country out of economic crisis and improve the conditions for the poor, besides asking the friendly countries for investment so that poverty can be reduced.
