The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has officially handed over 11 micronutrient feeders donated by the Turkish Cooperation and Co-ordination Agency (TIKA) to the Department of Health, Government of Sindh, here on Monday. The handover ceremony took place at the WFP warehouse in Port Qasim. Director General Health, Sindh Government, Dr Syed Hasan Murad Shah, was the Chief Guest on the occasion while Vice Consul General of the Turkish consulate in Karachi and WFP representative, Lola Castro, were among the guests of honour.
Commending both the Turkish Government and WFP for the positive gesture, the Chief Guest, Dr Hasan Murad Shah, said that food security and nutrition are a matter of concern for the Sindh Government. The provincial government's Department of Health is working with stakeholders to address these issues through preventive and therapeutic interventions and by adopting a multi-sectoral approach in close partnership with other partners.
The Turkish Vice Consul General addressing the ceremony said that "it is a privilege for TIKA to contribute to the wheat flour fortification efforts of WFP and the Health Department of Sindh." He added that the 11 micro feeders provided by TIKA will contribute to the improvement of the nutrition situation in Sindh. TIKA is the Government of Turkey's official development cooperation agency and has been present in Pakistan since 2010. WFP Representative acknowledged the support from the Government of Turkey and said that the micro feeders will enhance the quality of fortified wheat flour and improve the performance of mills in Thatta.-PR
