As many as 63 Pakistani companies will showcase their products in 'PEXPO - Pakistan Expo' scheduled to be held at Mid Valley Exhibition Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from February 12 to 15. The four-day mega show is being organised by EVECON - an event management company based in Karachi and its local partner in Kuala Lumpur, with the support of High Commission of Pakistan.
"Malaysia and Pakistan have huge markets and both the countries have also been enjoying a free trade agreement (FTA) since long, but unfortunately the mutual trade volume remained far less than its real potential," said EVECON's Chairman Nasir Abbas while briefing the media persons here at a hotel on Monday.
"Out of its $200 billion export volume, Malaysia's share to Pakistan stands at $2 billion, whereas Pakistan's exports to Malaysia are around $200 million," he added. He appreciated the cooperation of Kuala Lumpur Chambers of Commerce and Industry (KLMCC) in facilitating PEXPO. He said that this year, some leading Pakistani companies were going to participate in the exhibition, and hopefully, we would reap maximum benefits from this initiative.
The companies participating in the exhibition were from surgical/medical instruments industry, fruits, leather garments, textiles products, home textiles metallic yarn, sports goods, spices and recipes, cutlery, etc, he added. He said that the show was expected to attract 150,000 visitors. EVECON's Director International Marketing, Shahida Qaiser said that a group of women entrepreneurs/fashion designers were also participating in the fair, bringing latest prets combined with traditional embroidery on silk, chiffon, cotton and handcrafted jewellery depicting rich variety of culture and a multitude of social traditions. B2B meetings would also be held to bring both countries' businessmen closer, she said.
The visitors will also get an opportunity to taste Pakistani cuisines at ready to eat stalls. The exhibition will remain open to visitors free of charge from 12th -15th February. She said that Pakistan Expo was endorsed by PAK-ASEAN Business Forum and supported by prominent trade bodies including Surgical Instruments Manufacturers Association of Pakistan (SIMAP) and Women Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
