The PTI, PML-N and PML-F on Monday demanded that Rangers be authorised to clamp down on corrupt people, besides carrying out actions against outlaws and terrorists in the city. Speaking at a joint press conference outside Sindh Assembly Building, the opposition lawmakers including former chief ministers, Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Liaquat Ali Khan Jataoi, Shaharyar Khan Mehar and Khuram Sher Zaman Khan warned the provincial government of a province-wide protest if Rangers were not empowered.
They said that billions of dollars had been sent abroad from Sindh, as the province was facing an onslaught from corrupt people. They alleged the government for delaying ratification of Rangers powers by deliberately placing the resolution lower on agenda list.
They said that the three opposition parties would continue to bring in its own resolution to help extend the Rangers powers in coming sittings. They also demanded for taking the development funds from the Sindh government and handing over them to the army and Rangers. They called the PPP government 'corrupt'. They said that the Rangers had been staying in the province for the 25 years but no government had raised any questions on their stay before and never called for ratification from the assembly. They said that the ruling PPP was deliberately making extension in Rangers' policing power an issue. They asked Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah to extend policing powers to the Rangers unconditionally to protect the public life and property and restore peace in the province.
