Winter season brings with it many noticeable changes to all types of skin. The low humidity, dry atmosphere and harsh wind of winter can suck away skin moisture. Low moisture level leaves your skin dry, flaky, dull and itchy. Changing your skincare routine with the season can keep winter from drying your skin.
Skincare for oily skin It is a misconception that oily skin does not need to moisturise. To maintain the natural moisture of the oily skin, use oil free moisturiser regularly even in winter season. Finding the right moisturiser is not a difficult task. Just look for an oil free moisturiser that can balance the skin's natural level. Avoid applying petrolium jelly on face and lips. Use atleast eight to ten glasses of water even during winter to keep your skin hyderated and flushes out the toxins from the skin pores. Avoid skin from sunburn by applying sunscreen every morning after washing your face.
To protect oily skin from tough cold season you can apply a home-made nourishing mask. Mix togather papaya, sandle wood, lemon drops, yogurt and banana, apply evenly on skin and leave for 15 to 20 minutes. Apply it twice a week.
Here are some useful expert's tips of wearing makeup during winter season.
-- Splash face with warm water and use an exfoliator. Rub in circles all over the face, directed on chin, cheeks, forehead and sides of nose, where dead skin is most likely to accumulate. Rinse and then dry with a soft towel.
-- Now apply toner with the cotton ball to prevent makeup and dirts to clogg in to the pores. Always use alcohol free toner as it takes away all moisture and actually seals pores so tightly that dirt gets trapped inside.
-- You can make cleanser at home by mixing togather few lemon drops and one tablespoon milk. Apply gently on face and neck with the help of cotton. Rinse with luke warm water after 10 minutes.
-- Apply powder primer, using a powder brush all over the face and neck before makeup to absorb extra oil. It also helps to prevent any makeup from lodging in pores. Dust it on your entire face, including eye lids, as it will help act as a primer for crease-free eye shadow.
-- Buy foundation that is oil-free and water-based. Regular makeup products contain natural oils and they are not good for your skin, instead go for products with matte-effect that stay longer.
-- Apply the foundation with your fingertips in order to heat it up a bit. Using a foundation brush might not give you the best coverage. For even tone mix little moisturiser with the foundation. Dab a bit of foundation on cheeks, chin, and nose, then blend using downward motions. Repeat this process on forehead, but blend upwards toward the hair line.
-- Avoid using loose powder because it will cause dryness. If necessary use light powder matched with your foundation colour for the natural look.
-- Read carefully the ingredeints of the face powder or foundation and avoid that contains mica, or pearl powder. These are all reflective ingredients that will cause your face to look glittery and shiny.
-- Finally highlight your makeup with sparkling, vibrant lips and shimmery eye shadow.
Care for dry skin
Dry skin turns drier, harsh, rough and dull in winter season. It is important to moisturise and drink lots of water because moisture evaporates from the skin rapidly in winter. Well moisturised skin glows and displays healthy look even during the cold season. Apply a creamy, hydrating mask (or a rich night cream) to your face for 5 to 15 minutes before going to bed then whip out execces crème with the soft facial tissue paper.
To avoid dryness use soap with moisturizing crème or face wash to retain moisture. Avoid using oil free soap and shower gel because these can make dry skin more drier. Apply moisturizing crème immediately after bathing. Usage of bathing sponges in winter left the skin dry. Cracks and wrinkels become prominent during the dry and cold weather, to lock the moisture, apply regularly petroleum jelly or vaseline or a good quality body lotion.
Rose water is an effective natural way of keeping dry skin smooth and hyderated during the harsh dry cold weather. Mix rosewater with your moisturiser for an unflaky, soft and supple skin.
Mix togather egg yolk, rose water, lime juice, olive oil and orange juice (1 tea spoon each). Apply this mixture on your face in morning and wash it off after 20 minutes. A face mask of honey, egg, olive oil and rose water works very well for dry skin.
Here are expert's winter proof makeup tips for the dry skin.
-- Use a gentle exfoliant, and instead of using a foaming, gel-based cleanser, use milky or creamy cleansers. Massage deep with fingertips and wipe gently with soft facial tissue.
-- Soak a cotton ball into rosewater and apply it on your skin after you have cleansed your face.
-- Choose cream foundation for dry skin makeup, or mix equal parts moisturiser and foundation before applying, or use a tinted moisturiser instead.
-- Applying a layer of translucent pressed powder. It's less messy than loose powder.
-- Blush on enhances skin appearance. Apply a soft, peachy-hued (for fair skin) or choose colours from coral, rose, deep orange (for brown or dark skin). Avoid browns and peachy shades if you have dark skin blush onto the apples of your cheeks and blend towards your cheekbones. For your blush, you should for very dark skin, try a dark rose pink colour for the day and shades of bronze, plum and wine for the night.

Another popular mask recipe calls for 1/4 cup plain yogurt, 2 tablespoons honey, and 1 medium banana.
Make a mask by mixing 1/4 cup powdered milk with enough water to form a thick paste. Thoroughly coat your face with the mixture, let dry completely, then rinse with warm water. Your face will feel fresh and rejuvenated.
