The Karachi Port handled 106,766 tonnes of cargo comprising 80,326 tonnes of import cargo and 26,440 tonnes of export cargo including 5,774 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 80,326 tonnes comprised of 42,596 tonnes of containerised cargo; 485 tonnes of general cargo; 12,900 tonnes of bulk cargo: 9,020 tonnes of DAP; 3,880 tonnes of SB meal and 24,345 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 26,440 tonnes comprised of 24,416 tonnes of containerised cargo and 2,024 tonnes of cement. As many as 5,774 containers comprising of 3,338 containers import and 2,436 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 851 of 20's and 1,234 of 40's loaded while 11 of 20's and 4 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 747 of 20's and 291 of 40's loaded containers while 197 of 20's and 455 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were seven ships namely Hanjin Indigo, Corvette, ACX Diamond, Atlantic Miracle, Salzgitter, Agata M and Heilan Brother and Fabulous SW carrying containers, oil tanker, vehicle and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were seven vessels viz. ACX Diamond, Ever Unique, Batam Trader, Angel No 1, Mercini Lady, Ikan Salmon and Fabulous SW carrying containers, oil tankers, coal and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There were two ships namely Mercini Lady and BBC Denmark carrying oil tanker and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while five ships namely Ever Unique, Angel No 1, High Pearl, UACC Eagle and Ikan Salmon carrying containers, oil tankers and coal respectively are expected to sail on Thursday. There were three vessels Northern General, Delice and Majesty carrying containers, chemical and DAP respectively due to arrive on Wednesday, while two vessels viz. Mohar and Mandarin River carrying cement and steel respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.
